THE Human Settlements Adjudication Commission (HSAC) participated in the 21st National Convention and Seminar of the Sheriffs’ Confederation of the Philippines, Inc. (SCOPHIL) held on May 24 to 26, 2023 at the SM Convention Center, General Santos City, South Cotabato.

A total of seventeen (17) participants from the various HSAC Regional Adjudication Branches attended for the first time the biennial event organized by the SCOPHIL, the association of court sheriffs duly recognized by the Supreme Court (SC) of the Philippines, in coordination with the Philippine Judicial Academy.

This year’s convention, with its theme “Sheriffs Matter,” was designed to highlight the importance of the sheriff’s roles and functions, reaffirm their duties and responsibilities in executing writs and other processes issued by the courts and quasi-judicial agencies, and update them of the latest jurisprudence relevant to the discharge of their functions. Upon the invitation of the SCOPHIL, through its President, Atty. Eduardo L. Bolima, the HSAC joined the said convention to strengthen its linkage with the SCOPHIL, and to provide an opportunity for HSAC sheriffs to acquire new knowledge and connect with other court sheriffs and SC officials.

The SCOPHIL has been a steadfast partner of the HSAC in capacitating the latter’s sheriffs to execute and implement the decisions and awards of the Regional Adjudicators and the Commission.

Meanwhile, SC Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo graced the event as keynote speaker. The convention likewise featured a dialogue with the Office of the Court Administrator officials, including Court Administrator Raul B. Villanueva, Deputy Court Administrator Leo Tolentino Madrazo, and Assistant Court Administrator Maria Regina Adoracion Filomena M. Ignacio. Also among the resource speakers during the three-day event were Deputy Clerk of Court at-Large James D.V. Navarrete, General Santos City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Lorna B. Santiago-Avila, and Bacolod City RTC Branch 41 Presiding Judge Fernand A. Castro.
